A phone hotspot that will not connect. A computer, printer or app getting in the way. Bring the problem. Kevin helps you find a sensible next step and understand it.
Start with a question. We agree what help fits before work begins.
A little clarity before we begin
What is getting in your way?
Choose a starting point for three useful details to bring. You can ask for help at any time.
Phone or tablet
Make your phone useful again.
A setting you cannot find. Photos, sound or an app that is not behaving.
01
Name the device and the task.
iPhone, iPad or Android, and its model if you know it. What are you trying to do?
02
Describe where you get stuck.
Name the app or setting and the exact message, if there is one. Ordinary words are enough.
03
Share the pattern.
When did this start, what still works, and what have you already tried? Starting fresh is a useful answer too.
Wi-Fi or hotspot
Find where the connection stops.
Your phone has internet, but your laptop will not connect to its hotspot.
01
Name both sides of the connection.
The phone or router, and the Windows computer, Mac, tablet or other device you want to connect.
02
Describe the exact stopping point.
Does the network appear? Does it refuse to connect, or connect without internet? Note the message without sharing a password.
03
Say what already connects.
If you know, does the phone itself have mobile internet, and can another device connect? Mention what you have tried; no need to change settings just to answer.
Windows or Mac
Start with the thing you need to do.
Open a file. Find a setting. Connect a device. Make an everyday task less confusing.
01
Name the computer and the app.
Windows or Mac, its model or version if known, and the program involved. You do not need to look up every detail.
02
Describe the result you want.
What should happen, and what happens instead? Include the exact message without private account details.
03
Mention the recent changes.
When it last worked, anything that changed, and the steps you have already tried. Say if this is a work-managed computer.
Printer
Follow the job from screen to paper.
The printer looks ready, but the page never arrives.
01
Name the printer and the device.
Printer brand/model if known, what you are printing from, and whether it uses Wi-Fi or a cable.
02
Say where the job stops.
Does the printer appear in the app? Does the job wait in a queue? Note any message on the printer or screen.
03
Describe what still works.
When it last printed, whether another device can print, and anything you have tried. You do not need to reset or remove anything.
Email or an app
Make the problem easier to name.
Email will not send. An app will not open. A setting is getting in your way.
01
Name the app and the device.
For example, Gmail in a browser or Outlook on Windows. Keep your password and sign-in codes private.
02
Choose the part that is failing.
Opening, signing in, sending, receiving or doing a particular task. What happens when you try?
03
Share what you have noticed.
Whether it happens on one device or several, when it started, and what you have already tried.
A description is enough to start. Keep passwords, sign-in codes and private documents to yourself.
Useful beyond this one problem
A clearer answer. More confidence using it.
01 / The immediate task
Get unstuck.
Work through one agreed problem, starting with what you need the device or app to do.
02 / The understanding
Know what changed.
Understand the steps, why they help, and what actually worked on your device.
03 / The next time
Keep a simple guide.
Leave with useful follow-up instructions: repeat what worked, or take a clearer question to the right provider.
Practical know-how. Room to learn.
You stay in control.
Sometimes Kevin knows the next useful step. Sometimes research, including AI assistance, helps find it. We check the guidance against your device and what actually happens.
Want to get better at finding answers yourself? We can practice asking useful questions and checking the response while working on your real problem.
