Small Hours is an imagined coffee shop and roaster created for this Brightly Useful design study. It is not a real shop or a client project.

01 / YOUR KITCHEN COUNTER

Make a starting recipe

Set the water for each serving, choose a ratio and divide the total into three or four pours.

Make a starting recipe

For this example, a ratio of 15 means 15 ml of water per gram of coffee.

Illustrative brewing setup

The dripper, cup and bag are design illustrations. Check the capacity of your own equipment.

02 / A RECIPE TO TRY

Your starting recipe

2 servings x 250 ml = 500 ml of water. 31.3 g of coffee, rounded to the nearest 0.1 g.

A pour plan

Divide the water across 4 pours. The last pour includes any remainder so the pours add up to your total water.

With the 3D view open, select a pour to see that stage. This changes the illustration only; it does not time a real brew.

  1. Pour 1125 ml · 125 ml total
  2. Pour 2125 ml · 250 ml total
  3. Pour 3125 ml · 375 ml total
  4. Pour 4125 ml · 500 ml total

Use equipment suited to the total water, try the recipe and note what you would change next time.

This is an illustrative starting recipe. Taste will vary with your coffee, equipment and method. Coffee is rounded to the nearest 0.1 g. The final pour includes the remaining water.
